Stephen Hamrick, Colleyville Heritage High’s P.E./health teacher and the school’s head basketball coach for 14 years, has been honored by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches with the Class 5A Don Coleman Outstanding Coach Award. The honor is awarded in each of the UIL classifications to the best boys basketball coaches in Texas.
“This is definitely a team achievement,” Coach Hamrick said, crediting his players and coaches when he learned of the honor. “They have represented CHHS and our community with a lot of pride and class. It’s truly an honor for them to select us. The TABC is a great organization that supports coaches and student athletes.”
A Texas native, Coach Hamrick played basketball growing up and was an all-state guard, playing under his father who coached at Canyon High School. He then went on to play at Eastern New Mexico University, where he remains the career record holder for three-pointers. He holds that same record in the NCAA’s Lone Star Conference.
In his 26 years of coaching, he has served as an assistant at the collegiate level, an assistant at the high school level and 16 years as a head coach.
At CHHS, he has led the Panthers to three district championships and a regional tournament appearance.
Hamrick will be honored at the TABC Clinic, which will be held May 16-18 in San Antonio at St. Mary’s University.
Congratulations to Coach Hamrick!
