Mia Magaña was approved as the new Principal of Bear Creek Elementary School by the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees at the June 17 Regular Monthly Meeting.
Magaña is currently an assistant principal of Cross Timbers Middle School, a position she has held since 2018. She has spent her entire career in education in GCISD, first as a bilingual teacher at Timberline Elementary School, then as a learning liaison and instructional coach before entering campus administration. During that time she also served as a summer school administrator in GCISD for many years.
“Mia’s vision, collaborative leadership style, and her commitment to serving the students and staff of GCISD make her an excellent fit for Bear Creek Elementary,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz said. “I’m excited to see her continue to make a positive impact in the district, and build upon Bear Creek’s past success and student achievement.”
Her leadership involvement includes professional development, retention and hiring, and organizing campus-wide initiatives and student clubs. She’s also led the Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Math and Special Education teams, and assisted with emergency management.
“I’ve had the privilege to be a part of the GCISD family for the past 16 years. Throughout my journey, I've cherished every role, from the kindergarten classroom at Timberline Elementary to serving as Assistant Principal at Cross Timbers Middle School,” Magaña said. “Now, I am honored to join the Bear Creek Elementary School community. Bear Creek Elementary is renowned for being a welcoming place for students, families and staff, and I am thrilled to become a part of the Bears family. I look forward to working with the students, staff, and families at BCES.”
Magaña has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina and Master of Educational Administration from Concordia University. She will begin her new role July 1.
