GCISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) students showcased their skills at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Region II Conference, held February 28-March 1. After impressive presentations, two teams have earned their place at the state competition, set for April 11-13 in Dallas.
Kinsey Vines and Katie Rosado took first place in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation (HTR) event, securing their spot at state. Their competition required them to design a restaurant from the ground up, which included developing a mission statement, outlining a customer service process, designing a website, creating a menu and more. They also created a detailed PowerPoint presentation, which they delivered to a panel of judges. In addition, they tackled an on-the-spot case study, further demonstrating their industry knowledge.
Hunter Somerman and Jesaiah Brown also advanced to state after earning fourth place in the Food Innovations category. Their challenge was to develop a marketable superfood drink, which involved testing their product with students, calculating its nutritional value and food costs, and designing a professional display. They also gave a speech that detailed their product’s benefits and feasibility.
Advancing to state means these students will compete against the top teams from all five Texas regions. Those who place in the top five at state will earn scholarship opportunities and the top two teams at state will move on to compete at the FCCLA National Conference in Orlando, FL.
Congratulations to these talented students for their hard work, and best of luck at state!
