GCISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs continue to provide students with hands-on learning and real-world experience.
On January 30, CHHS senior Angel Ybarra Flores, a student in the school’s new Graphic Design II class, helped design buttons for Career and Technical Educators of North Texas (CTENT), a local organization that supports students through scholarships and recognizes high-achieving CTE students. Junior Achievement, another nonprofit that inspires and prepares young people for success, purchased a voucher for buttons designed by Flores at a CTENT auction. When redeemed, the Graphic Design class will start to work on creating 100 personalized buttons for Junior Achievement. Students will collaborate with Junior Achievement on creating the design before the class produces the buttons using the machine that the class uses.
When asked how the assignment contributed to his experience, Flores said, “this assignment added to my personal portfolio for college and in the future possible internships or freelance work.” The Graphic Design II class is new to CHHS, and Flores encourages students who are considering the course to enroll, calling it one of the most rewarding classes he has taken.
