GCISD is proud to announce that 19 members of the Class of 2025 have been named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
The competition began with over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools who took the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Semifinalists were named in September, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official had to submit a detailed scholarship application, which included information about their academic record; participation in school and community activities; demonstrated leadership abilities; employment; and honors and awards received. The honoree must also have an outstanding academic record throughout high school; be endorsed and recommended by a high school official; write an essay; and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
As National Merit Finalists, these academically talented students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition with an opportunity to earn one of the 6,870 National Merit Scholarships totaling $26 million that will be announced in spring 2025.
Congratulations to GCISD’s Class of 2025 National Merit Finalists:
