The Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage high school cheer teams competed in the UIL Spirit State Championships held January 17-18. GHS earned a silver medal in the 5A Division 2 category for the second year in a row and the CHHS cheer team placed ninth in the state.
After qualifying for the finals with a top-20 score out of nearly 75 teams in the 5A Division 2, GHS achieved the third-highest point total in the finals round out of all teams in Texas, across divisions 1A through 6A, which comprise approximately 500 schools.
Two Grapevine teams and one from Colleyville Heritage will compete again January 24-26 at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) High School National Championship, which will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.
The first GHS cheer team, which includes members of the drumline, Mustang Guard and Fillies, will aim for their fourth consecutive national title in the Game Day division.
