On October 22, Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School cross country teams competed at the UIL 5A Region I Championship at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, where the men’s and women’s teams from both schools advanced to the state championship.
The GHS men's team won the overall regional championship making it their sixth regional title in the past 10 years, while the women’s team finished fourth overall and qualified for the state championship for the 11th consecutive year.
“I am really proud of the way our athletes stepped up at Regionals. Both of our teams accepted the challenge in a tough region to earn their spots at the State Meet. We are excited and looking forward to the opportunity in Round Rock,” said GHS Cross Country Head Coach Rick Miller.
The CHHS men’s and women’s teams finished as the regional championship runners-up in their divisions. This is the sixth consecutive podium finish at regionals for the Lady Panthers and the second year in row that the men’s team will compete for the state championship.
“We are extremely proud of our teams for earning a podium finish at the regional championship to qualify for the state meet. It is a testament to our kids' resilience and determination. They are an excellent group of young people, who are a joy to coach. We couldn't be more proud of them," said CHHS Cross Country Head Coach Nick Taylor.
The UIL 5A state meet will be held Saturday, November 2, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The women’s race will begin at 10:45 a.m. and the men’s race will start at 11:25 a.m.
Please help us congratulate both schools as they move on to compete for the state championship!
