On the heels of receiving the Transparency Stars Award from the Texas Comptroller, GCISD’s Financial Services has now received the top rating of A for Superior Achievement in the state’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.

“Strong financial stewardship and internal system efficiency is one of the district’s top priorities,” Chief Financial Officer Derick Sibley stated. “Our financial team takes that seriously and we work hard to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars by having sound financial practices and making information readily available on our district website to our citizens in a format that is easy to understand and that promotes transparency and accountability.”

This year’s 2023-2024 ratings are for 2022-2023 school year data. The Texas Education Agency issues the ratings, which are based on 20 indicators of sound financial management practices and continuous improvement. Some of those indicators include submitting annual financial reports by the scheduled deadlines, receiving an unmodified opinion on financial statements from external independent auditors, and being in compliance with payments to debt agreements, to name a few.

GCISD has received the award every year since it was first developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999.
