iUniversity Prep, GCISD’s free online public school, was named a top three finalist in the Houston Chronicle’s fifth annual Best of the Best Awards announced July 18.
Winners were named across 150 categories after thousands of votes were submitted and iUP was honored as a Best of the Best finalist in the Houston’s Best E-Learning Program category. iUniversity Prep students reside all across Texas and that reflects the school’s motto of #ExcellenceAnywhere.
This honor comes on the heels of iUP being named #1 in Texas and #2 in America on Niche’s 2024 Best Public Online High Schools ranking. Notably, iUP has been at the top of the Texas list since it first qualified for the ranking in 2019.
The school’s success shows daily in the classroom as well as in the achievements of its graduating class. iUP’s Class of 2024 collectively earned $17 million in scholarships and went on to colleges or universities, continued their pursuits as professional athletes or obtained certifications for immediate entry into post-secondary careers, such as paramedic, real estate, or other fields, to name a few.
iUP fifth-eighth grade students are also on a path for success, consistently outperforming state testing averages. The 2024 STAAR results show that the school’s fifth-eighth graders performed 26% higher than state averages overall.
