Transparency Stars Award

GCISD’s Financial Services has been recognized with the Transparency Stars Award from the Texas Comptroller. The award recognizes local governments for going above and beyond in their transparency efforts. GCISD was recognized in the area of traditional finances.

Chief Financial Officer Derick Sibley emphasized the district’s dedication to financial integrity, stating, “Strong financial stewardship and internal system efficiency is so important in GCISD, that it’s one of the district’s priorities. Transparency is a way of demonstrating that we are committed to being good stewards of the public’s money.”

Award recipients must provide clear and meaningful information that is publicly accessible. GCISD's Finance webpage features an array of documents, including the annual report of local debt Information, School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) reports, annual comprehensive financial reports, check registers or disbursement reports for the fiscal year, monthly financial reports, general fund budget information, and data regarding revenue and expenses per student, property tax revenue per student and tax rate information.

In addition to the Transparency Stars Award, GCISD has been previously honored with Certificates of Excellence in Financial Reporting from both the Association of School Business Officials International and from the Government Finance Officers Association. These accolades further highlight the district’s commitment to transparency and financial excellence.

Only 98 school districts of the more than 1,200 school districts in Texas have received the Transparency Stars Award. As an honoree, GCISD has the district’s status listed as a Transparency Star winner on the Texas Comptroller’s website, is presented a certificate of commendation, and receives a digital insignia of the award to display on the district’s website.
