On Saturday, May 25, Grapevine High School baseball swept Lubbock Cooper High School in a best-of-three series, to advance to the Region 1 Championship.
“I am very proud of how well we played last week versus a very good Lubbock Cooper team,” GHS head baseball coach Jimmy Webster said about the series sweep.
The Mustangs threw two shutout games and only gave up four hits in the two games.
“We were defensively solid and came through with some timely hits as well,” Webster explained. “Jarett Boswell hit a huge home run in Game 1, and Gianni Corral and Peyton Tatum both hit well over the weekend.”
The team had 11 hits in Game 2, which helped them win and advance to the next round of playoffs.
“We are excited to still be playing this late in the year and are looking forward to playing Argyle this weekend,” Webster added.
Argyle is a familiar opponent. The GHS baseball team split the series with Argyle in district play, and this next series will decide who reigns supreme in District 7 as the Region 1 champions.
The winner of this regional final series will face the winner of Magnolia West versus Lake Creek in Round Rock in the semifinals at the state tournament.
Good luck to our Mustangs as they continue their postseason journey!
