Three GCISD Special Olympics athletes won gold and several other medals at the Special Olympics Texas summer games held May 16-19 in San Antonio, Texas.
“The athletes had an absolutely fantastic time,” said Trent Edwards, adaptive P.E. coach who heads up GCISD’s Special Olympics. “They represented GCISD exceptionally well.”
Congratulations to the following athletes, all from Colleyville Heritage High School:
Christian Jeremiah Simpson, gold medal in the 50-Meter Run and silver medal in the Ball Throw event
Ethan Rushing, gold medal in the 200-Meter Run and bronze medal in the Mini Javelin event
Alan Gomez, gold medal in the 50-Meter Run and bronze medal in the Softball Throw event
GCISD’s Special Olympics offers numerous local events throughout the year, including bowling, basketball and bocce ball for all of its athletes. Starting at age eight, students can participate in area competitions. High school Special Olympics athletes can also participate at state. See the schedule of local events here.
