Grapevine-Colleyville ISD (GCISD) is proud to announce that 14 members of the Class of 2024 have been named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
The competition began with over 1.3 million juniors who took the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Semifinalists were named in September, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and the highest-scoring entrants in each state. To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official had to submit a detailed scholarship application, which included information about the Semifinalist’s academic record; participation in school and community activities; demonstrated leadership abilities; employment; and honors and awards received. The honoree must also have an outstanding academic record throughout high school; be endorsed and recommended by a high school official; write an essay; and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
As National Merit Finalists, these academically talented students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition which will award an estimated 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be announced in the spring of 2024.
