As our students prepare for course selections for the 2024-2025 school year, GCISD wants to ensure that our staff, students and families are all well informed regarding the high school schedule. GCISD is currently planning for its two comprehensive high schools to remain on a traditional eight-period day.

The district has explored other options, and determined that due to graduation requirements, the number of course credits our students have currently been able to earn, course offerings, and the potential loss of CTE funding, remaining with the eight-period day for the 2024-2025 school year is the most beneficial schedule for our campuses.

With this in mind, GCISD is in the process of putting together an advisory committee to discuss options to enhance the current bell schedule and educational path that currently exists in GCISD. We will be requesting representation of parents and staff from each level and various academic and extracurricular groups to serve with campus and district leadership. This will be a large committee that will be divided into subcommittees based on members’ representation and interests. Although spots will be filled first based on criteria to ensure a comprehensive and balanced committee, there will also be an opportunity for additional interested parents and staff to serve in an at-large capacity. More information will be provided regarding the advisory committee once school resumes for the second semester.

Through the development and work with this advisory committee, there will be opportunities to review items such as the instructional calendar, graduation requirements, course offerings, GPA, staffing, and class loads. It is important to note that no major changes to previously approved holidays on the instructional calendar for next year would be considered.

Please look for more information on the advisory committee in January as we will continue to communicate updates with all who are impacted by the high school schedule. Have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to our work together in 2024!
