Planning is already underway for the 2024-2025 school year, and that begins with the development of the instructional calendar.
GCISD has developed two instructional calendar options and is seeking input from the families and staff through this GCIS District Calendar Survey. These calendar options were reviewed by various district groups, which have included parents, teachers, and administrators.
Throughout this planning process, the calendars were adjusted based on feedback and developed around the parameters set by the Texas Education Agency. The instructional calendars must meet the minimum instructional minute total for students and include 187 instructional staff work days.

- Most similar to the current 2023-2024 calendar
- Includes two inclement weather days and 900-920 flexible minutes
- Includes six professional development days at intervals throughout the year (Fall Semester: 9/23, 11/4-5; Spring Semester: 1/6-7, 2/17)
- November 5 is a professional development day based on feedback related to safety concerns for elementary campuses that serve as polling sites on Election Day
- The winter break is two full weeks resulting in a later return in January
- One early release day for all schools at the end of each semester
- Last day of school before Memorial Day
- Four neighboring districts have a similar winter break on an approved or draft calendar
- Four neighboring districts have approved or draft calendars with the same spring break
- Similar to Draft A with adjustments from feedback
