GCISD Escape the Bus

Always looking for new and creative ways to incorporate technology into learning, the GCISD Technology Department has launched “Escape the Bus” as their latest creation.

The innovative minds of the technology and transportation teams joined forces to find an old bus and breathe new life into it. The now high-tech bus has seamlessly integrated Wi-Fi, charging ports, computers and monitors, which have turned it into a classroom on wheels.

GCISD’s Executive Director of Technology Dwight Goodwin shared that "The bus allows GCISD staff to partner and interact with the community away from the physical building and take them places beyond the four walls."

During registration season, the bus is used on-site at community and campus events to help families across the district by offering them a chance to register for the upcoming school year with ease. Now that the school year is well underway, the bus has transformed into an escape room for staff.

The “Escape the Bus” experience is an exciting journey of problem-solving and teamwork that is available to GCISD staff. When participants step inside the bus they will find puzzles and challenges that are centered around the district and its history. With an hour on the clock, teams have to unlock clues that take them on a learning journey from kindergarten to graduation.

While the one-of-a-kind escape bus is currently being used for staff team building, soon students will be able to go on their own problem-solving adventure. Whether its students or staff enjoying the classroom on wheels, they are bound to have a fun and educational experience.
