Kyle Berger, GCISD’s chief technology officer, has recently been awarded two national distinctions as a leader in technology. These honors come on the heels of GCISD being awarded a first-ever Newline Interactive District technology award.

EdDigest, a leading online source of cool tools, interviews and trends showcasing the future of learning, named Berger a 2023 EdTech Trendsetter Award recipient, specifically in the “School Leaders Setting a Trend” category. Established in 2010, the annual trendsetter awards recognize, acknowledge and celebrate the most exceptional innovators, leaders and trendsetters in the K-12, higher education, and workforce sectors.

Berger was also one of 16 education technology leaders across the nation named an Impact 30 award recipient by the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN). The organization is the premier professional association for school system technology leaders. The award identifies education technology leaders who are currently making a difference for schools across the nation today and who are the influencers for the next 30 years.

GCISD’s chief technology officer since 2017, Berger has worked in K-12 technology leadership in Texas school districts of various sizes and demographics. He has received numerous awards and has also been named a Top 100 Influencer by Edtech Digest. Known as a transformer of educational technology, his work is featured in several educational technology magazines, books and case studies. His work in GCISD includes overseeing bond program technology implementation, technology deployments, district technology revitalizations and the development of eSports programs.

“As an educator, I firmly believe that technology can be a powerful tool to empower students and transform education,” Berger said. “I am fortunate to work alongside a team of passionate individuals who share the same vision and tirelessly work towards making a difference in the lives of students, staff, and all our futures. This recognition is not only a testament to our collective efforts but also a reminder of the significant impact that technology can have on education.”
