GCISD is proud to announce that Desiree Weiche has been named the new principal of iUniversity Prep. Trustees approved the appointment at the March 27 Board of Trustees Meeting.

Weiche is the current Dean of Instruction at iU Prep, where she leads recruitment efforts, mentors staff, and fosters a collaborative atmosphere focused on student growth and excellence. She began her work with the school in 2016 as a virtual instructor in the areas of art, biology and health, and was named the 2019 iU Prep Teacher of the Year.

Prior to joining iU Prep, Weiche taught science at Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth ISD. She also has experience as a freshmen mentor team member and served on various other teams that supported the overall success of the school.

“Desiree has established strong relationships with our students, staff, and families,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz said. “We’re excited to have her leading iUniversity Prep as it remains one of the premier online schools in the nation.”

iU Prep is the #1 ranked virtual school in the state of Texas. Weiche attributes this prestigious status to the outstanding staff and is proud of what the school has accomplished in its first 10 years.

“iUniversity Prep holds a very special place in my heart,” Weiche said. “It’s home for me and has been the best job ever at every position I have held here. I am passionate about our success, and know that we will continue to grow and thrive. I am so thankful for our students and families who #ChooseWisely by joining this program, and feel blessed to be able to serve this amazing school as principal.”

Weiche holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Texas and Master of Education in Administration and Leadership from Tarleton State University. She will begin her new role effective immediately.
