Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District -

The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Dr. Brad Schnautz the lone finalist for GCISD Superintendent of Schools at its February 27 Regular Meeting.

Dr. Schnautz is currently serving as the Interim Superintendent in GCISD, a role which he began in January of this year following the retirement of Dr. Robin Ryan. Dr. Schnautz has been in GCISD since 2017 as the Deputy Superintendent, leading the pre-kindergarten through 12th grade instructional, athletics, and fine arts programs.

“It’s been an honor to have served this district for nearly six years now and to have had the opportunity to play a role in helping GCISD realize gains and successes in achievement throughout our organization,” he said. “GCISD is exceptional because of its people. From our dedicated staff throughout our district to our amazingly talented students, and from our supportive and invested families to our strong partnerships with our community members, we will continue to provide the education and learning experiences that will allow our students to be leaders in their pursuits beyond GCISD. I’m blessed and excited to guide our district to further success in the future.”

With more than 20 years experience in education, Dr. Schnautz has served in various roles, including math teacher and coach in Bryan ISD, Conroe ISD, and Magnolia ISD before becoming a campus administrator in 2008. He also has experience as a high school assistant principal, junior high school principal, and high school principal in Magnolia ISD. In 2015, Dr. Schnautz was selected as superintendent for Lexington ISD, where he led the district until his departure for GCISD.

Dr. Schnautz earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M University, a Master of Education in Administration from Sam Houston State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Texas A&M University.

GCISD Board President Casey Ford said that on behalf of the trustees it is his privilege to announce Dr. Schnautz as the next GCISD Superintendent.

“He possesses the qualifications and integrity necessary to lead GCISD into a bright future,” said Ford. “His previous experience as a superintendent in another district as well as his time as our deputy superintendent and interim superintendent make him uniquely suited to fulfill this role. He has always shown a great understanding of our community values and has a work ethic that is second to none. There’s no doubt he will continue to Build Excellent Schools Together and foster environments where academic potentials are achieved. We want to congratulate Dr. Schnautz and are proud to introduce him as our new GCISD Superintendent.”

In the fall, GCISD trustees selected Superintendent Search Firm Leasor Crass to lead the process of selecting GCISD’s next superintendent. That process included input and feedback from parents, employees, and community members through surveys and meetings. From that feedback, a profile was developed that led to the identification of potential candidates.

As a well-connected community leader, Dr. Schnautz has been involved in various organizations such as the Grapevine Rotary Club, Colleyville and Grapevine Chambers of Commerce, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentor Program, and a volunteer coach for local sports associations. In 2022, he was the recipient of the GCISD Council of PTAs Friends of Children Award.

He and his wife Jenny have four children. Their oldest daughter graduated from Grapevine High School in 2021 and attends Georgia Tech. They also have two daughters currently attending Grapevine High School, and their son attends Glenhope Elementary. They look forward to having all of their children graduate from GCISD because of the excellent academic opportunities and experiences that our district provides.

“GCISD and this community are extremely special to my family and me,” he said. “My children are all involved in activities in our community, and my wife and I volunteer and serve in the GCISD community because we absolutely love it. We are completely invested in this wonderful community, and it is home. We hope to be here for many years to come.”

In compliance with state law, Dr. Schnautz must remain the lone finalist for a 21-day waiting period before the school board can formally name him superintendent.
