Nutrition Services celebrated another Literary Lunch Day at GCISD elementary schools on Wednesday, February 15.

“This is our way of getting the classroom into the lunchroom,” GCISD’s chef and culinary trainer Jason Aronen said, while at Cannon Elementary School.

One student per grade who chooses a plate lunch is randomly selected to receive the book. A complimentary copy of the book is also provided to each elementary school library. The featured book presented this time was from the popular children's series, Pete the Cat, titled "Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party," and was given away on the most popular day of the week, pizza day!

Nutrition services attempts to find new ways to incorporate bringing the classroom into the lunchroom.

“We want kids to get excited about reading and incorporate books with a food theme,” Aronen added.

The Nutrition Services Department travels across the district for these types of events throughout the school year, such as Mathematics Monday.
