Holiday shoppers to Colleyville area businesses might have seen a nice surprise over the last few weeks – artwork by GCISD students on display. The Colleyville Chamber of Commerce partnered with the GCISD Fine Arts Department to showcase students’ artwork and recognized these talented students during a February 6 ceremony.

The person behind the idea, Colleyville Chamber of Commerce Member Kylan Hoss with PROC Roofing and Construction, said that he first thought about the idea back in 2019 as a way for the businesses and school district to showcase student art, but then COVID-19 hit. Fast forward to 2021 and the project was able to pick up steam, with quick support from GCISD.

“Everyone said ‘this is a great idea’,” he said after meeting with GCISD Director of Fine Arts Dr. Paul Sikes.

“The program allowed us to do this in a truly beautiful way,” said Colleyville Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Chelsea Rose. “This partnership brings the business community and school district together in a way that shows support and celebration.”

Interim GCISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz, who recognized students at the ceremony together with the Chamber of Commerce, agrees.

“We have tremendous resources here in our community, and anytime we can leverage and partner with them and showcase our students, their talent, their work, we want to capitalize on that,” he said. “When we build partnerships between our school district and community, it’s going to pay huge dividends for not only our students, but all who live here.”

Grapevine High School junior Madelyn Engle, whose self-portrait was displayed at the Colleyville Business Center shared that the Art Walk is great for the community.

“It gets the schools involved with the local businesses and I just think that it’s a great opportunity to showcase your work and let other people see what you are working on in school,” she said.

Congratulations to the students whose art was displayed:
