GCISD’s Colleyville Middle School is once again a Texas School To Watch. The re-designation status was awarded by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
“We truly have a solid school community that is collectively working for one purpose and that’s our students,” stated CMS Principal Dr. David Arencibia. “Every day we work to provide the best education possible for our students in the most caring environment and this award is a validation that we are coming together for them.”
State education leaders selected Colleyville Middle School for its academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational structures and processes. The school was also recognized for its strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and commitment to assessment and accountability to bring continuous improvement.
CMS was first named a School to Watch in 2020, an honor that is awarded to middle-grades schools that meet 37 research-based criteria developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle School Grades Reform. Before awarding the designation, state teams visit the candidates to observe classrooms; interview administrators, teachers, students and parents; and review achievement data, suspension rates, quality of lessons and student work. Schools honored are recognized for a three-year period and at the end of that period must demonstrate progress on specific goals to be re-designated.
CMS will be recognized at the Making Middle School Matter Symposium hosted by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals on March 5-7. They will also be recognized nationally with Schools to Watch from across the country at the National Forum Schools to Watch Conference in Washington D.C. June 22-24.
