At the October 24 Board meeting the GCISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Deputy Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz as the district’s Interim Superintendent of Schools. His duties will begin on January 6, 2023.

Dr. Schnautz joined GCISD in 2017. He has led the pre-kindergarten through 12th grade instructional, athletics and fine arts programs in his role as deputy superintendent. While working closely with and supporting executive directors, directors and principals, GCISD has continued with the tradition of academic excellence and success in fine arts and athletics.

“I’m honored to be selected to serve in this role for the students, staff, and families of GCISD,” said Dr. Schnautz. “I’m grateful to have served under Dr. Ryan’s leadership. GCISD has positively impacted my own family and the lives of thousands of others through its values of purpose, innovation, and community. I look forward to providing stability to a district we all love during this time of transition, and I’m excited to continue serving and supporting our amazing students and staff.”

Dr. Schnautz began his career in education in 2002 as a math teacher and coach in Bryan ISD. He also served as a teacher and coach in Conroe ISD and Magnolia ISD before becoming a campus administrator in 2008. He has experience as a high school assistant principal, junior high school principal, and high school principal in Magnolia ISD. In 2015, Dr. Schnautz was selected as superintendent for Lexington ISD, where he led the district until his departure for GCISD.

“I want to thank Dr. Schnautz for stepping up to take on this role and helping navigate GCISD toward the future,” said Board President Casey Ford. “I look forward to working alongside him as the Board continues the process to search for our next leader of the district.”

Dr. Schnautz earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, a Master of Education in Administration from Sam Houston State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Texas A&M University. He will serve as Superintendent in the interim as the GCISD Board of Trustees searches for a permanent replacement after current Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan recently announced his retirement.

The Board of Trustees will begin the process to hire a search firm and set plans to gather community feedback over the coming weeks and months. A brief update will be provided at each regularly scheduled board meeting.
