On Monday, October 24, elementary and middle school students found one special surprise on one of their school lunch menu items – a mathematics problem.

The idea for what the Nutrition Services team is calling “Mathematics Monday” is a fun way for students to continue learning during lunch.

At Colleyville Middle School, students thought it was a good idea, including a sixth grader who said that “the more you practice, the better you will be at math when you grow up.” Her lunchtime table friends agreed.

“Mathematics Monday is our way of trying to bring learning into the cafeteria,” said Jason Aronen, chef and culinary trainer for nutrition services, but better known across the district as Chef Jason. “We use math every day in our kitchens.”
