hs team winning and holding medals and a plaque

On May 18, Grapevine High School students competed in the UIL State Academics competition where they earned several top places, including the UIL 5A State Championship in Number Sense.

Number Sense is a 10-minute, 80-question mental math test, meaning students have to complete the work in their head and can only jot down their answer. Problems vary from basic mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and lower-level calculus problems. “We are super proud of all of them. It’s a huge accomplishment,” said Sterling Bristow, GHS teacher and mathematics team sponsor. “Not only did they place first in 5A, but they had the highest score of any conference, truly making the best team in Texas.” Congratulations to all of the GHS individual and team winners for placing in various events: Mathematics Cathy Du, Piyush Mallick, Eric Tong and Jonathan Wang - 5A State Championship Team in Number Sense Piyush Mallick - Fifth Place in Math (individual) and Seventh Place in Number Sense (individual) Eric Tong - Second Place in Number Sense (individual) Jonathan Wang - Ninth Place in Number Sense (individual) Speech and Debate Roslyn Ackermann - Seventh Place in Prose (individual) Signy Ackermann - Fourth Place in Prose (individual) Ellis Wesley - Seventh Place in Poetry (individual)
