The GCISD Board of Trustees approved Dr. Holly Ray as Chief of Schools at its May 22 meeting.

Ray joined GCISD in April 2022 as the Director of English Language Arts and Literacy, where she oversees the implementation of curriculum and assessments and provided campus support in ELA. Before joining GCISD, she spent three years as a middle school principal in New Caney ISD and four years as an elementary principal in Magnolia ISD. She also has experience in the classroom teaching ELA in eighth, ninth and 11th grades, and AP Language and Composition.

“Dr. Ray’s vast administrative experience across all levels has given her the knowledge and understanding to succeed as she steps into this new role,” Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz said. “I look forward to the impact she will continue to make in the organization as we build upon the exceptional opportunities and high achievement in GCISD.”

Honors received by Ray include Teacher of the Year at Magnolia High School and Magnolia West High School, Magnolia ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year, and Region VI Secondary Teacher of the Year. She was also a recipient of the Outstanding Dissertation Award at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

“I am so humbled to serve GCISD as the Chief of Schools,” Ray said. “What a blessing to be part of a district and community that are committed to putting kids first.”

Ray holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English from Houston Baptist University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Stephen F.
