Taxes in GCISD

There are two GCISD property tax rates that comprise the total tax rate of $0.9233.

The first tax rate is the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) rate of $0.7369. These tax collections provide revenues to fund the District’s daily operating costs, including payroll for teachers and staff.

The second tax rate is the Interest & Sinking (I&S) rate of $0.1864. These collections provide the funds necessary to pay the interest and principal on the bond package that GCISD voters approved in 2016, much like your mortgage payment. The bond funds provide the money that, per State law, can only be used for facilities and to fund other capital improvements and equipment, such as technology. It is important to note that these funds cannot be used on teacher salaries.
