The state's top leadership — Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Speaker of the House Dade Phelan — announced last week that Texas would release $11.2 billion in federal funds to Texas schools. These are dollars the U.S. Congress in Washington approved in March to help students overcome learning interruptions and other challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to figures released by the Texas Education Agency, GCISD is set to receive more than $9.1 million in federal funding. GCISD will keep the community updated as decisions are made about how to use those resources to help our students.
