The GCISD Instructional Calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was approved by the Board of Trustees at its December 11 Regular Meeting. GCISD’s first day of school will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
A few holidays and important dates on the calendar include:
- District holidays are on September 2, 2024, October 14, 2024, January 20, 2025, April 18, 2025, May 26, 2025, and June 19, 2025
- Six professional development days (no school for students) are scheduled for September 23, 2024, November 4-5, 2024 (Election Day), January 6-7, 2025, and February 17, 2025
- Thanksgiving Break runs November 25-29, 2024
- Winter Break runs December 23, 2024 - January 3, 2025
- Spring Break runs March 17-21, 2025
- The calendar includes flexible minutes, which will be used before the two bad weather days scheduled for February 14, 2025, and March 14, 2025
- The last day of school is on Thursday, May 22, 2025

The calendar meets the minimum 75,600 instructional minutes required for students, includes the contract length required for staff and meets other parameters set by the Texas Education Agency, including state assessment dates.
The approved instructional calendar is Calendar A, which received the majority of votes from GCISD employees, parents, students and community members in the survey. Thank you to the GCISD stakeholders for providing feedback on the proposed calendars.
*Now that the GCISD Instructional Calendar has been approved, iUniversity Prep and Collegiate Academy will develop calendars specialized to the specifications of their programs, and those will be shared with their students and families.
