A student is required to attend the school designated for the attendance area in which the student resides. However, under certain circumstances, a student may be permitted to transfer to a school outside of his or her attendance zone.

A resident parent or resident legal guardian of a student may request a transfer from one school to another. The criteria used in considering a transfer are found in Administration Regulations – S – Student Lottery Transfer Process and are as follows:

  • Available capacity in the requested school
  • The transfer student's attendance meets the 90% rule
  • The transfer student's behavior is in good standing
  • The transfer student's grades are in good standing

Upon approval, the student is allowed one campus transfer per school year; however, at the end of the semester, a student may transfer back to the campus in the student’s attendance zone. Approved transfers remain in effect until the student completes the grade levels offered at the school unless the transfer is revoked as per Board Policy FDB(LOCAL).

For the purpose of determining the assignment of transfer students, space shall be considered available when a campus has enrolled less than 90 percent of its enrollment projection for the coming school year. An approved transfer for one child does not guarantee space availability for current or future siblings.
