Summer Bridge Courses are designed for students who would like to move from on level or pre-ap math and science courses to accelerated courses in middle school. This summer courses will be 100% online. Please note that the date and day ranges vary for science and math.

Registration and Course Fees: $300 per course (no additional registration fee)
Scholarships are available for families facing financial hardships.

BIOLOGY 1 READINESS (current 7th-grade → 8th-grade transition)
 

For upcoming 8th grade students who took Pre-AP or On-Level 7th grade Science and desire to enroll in Biology 1 for the 2020-2021 school year.

o An acceleration or enrichment program to prepare and support students for enrollment and

success in 8th-grade science (including Accelerated)

o Students from On-Level, Pre-AP and Accelerated Science are all eligible for this course.

o Experience a course that will expose students to key concepts to facilitate their entry into

Accelerated 8th-grade science (Biology).

o Participate in lessons that will allow students to investigate life science, earth science, and physical science

o 8th-grade content focus areas: middle school chemistry and physics concepts


Summer Bridge for Science will be offered June 1-26, Monday through Friday each week.   Students will meet as a class for approximately 30 minutes each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The instructor will be available for office hours for a 2-hour span each day.  Students will work in Google Classroom and can expect to work about 2 hours each day, Monday through Friday.  The course will terminate with an online exam on June 26th.  



SUMMER BRIDGE: SCIENCE FOR 7TH GRADE (current 6th-grade → 7th-grade transition) 

For upcoming 7th grade students who took Pre-AP or On-Level 6th grade Science and

desire to enroll in Accelerated 7th Grade Science for the 2020-2021 school year.

o An acceleration or enrichment program to prepare students for enrollment and success in 7th

grade science (including Accelerated)

o Students from On-Level, Pre-AP, and Accelerated Science are all eligible for this course.

For upcoming 8th grade students who took Pre-AP or On-Level 7th grade Math and

desire to enroll in Algebra 1 for the 2020-2021 school year.

o An acceleration or enrichment program to prepare and support students for enrollment and

success in 8th-grade math (including Accelerated)

o Students from On-Level, PAP and Accelerated Math are all eligible for this course

o An online self-paced program with a teacher offering support virtually that is designed to develop a deep understanding of math concepts.

o 8th-grade content focus areas: measurement, algebraic concepts, and geometry

o 8th-grade Algebra 1 Readiness Exam administered at the end of the bridge program for registration consideration

 


Summer Bridge Mathematics Courses will be offered June 1 - 24, Monday - Thursday

Students will have approximately 2 hours of work per day.

Algebra Readiness (7th to 8th transition) teacher will be available for office hours Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and by appointment at other times during the week.  All work will be available through Google Classroom.  Teachers are recording instruction so that students may work at their own pace.  Students may work ahead, and the target date for all students to complete the course is by June 24 with an end of bridge exam.  Students who require an extension beyond June 24 will complete the course as soon as possible with the GCISD Director of Mathematics.



SUMMER BRIDGE: MATH FOR 7TH GRADE (current 6th-grade → 7th-grade transition) 

For upcoming 7th grade students who took Pre-AP or On-Level 6th Grade Math and desire to enroll in 7th-grade Accelerated Math for the 2020-2021 school year.

o An acceleration or enrichment program to prepare and support students for enrollment and success in 7th-grade math (including Accelerated) 

o Students from On-Level, PAP and Accelerated Math are all eligible for this course 

o An online self-paced program with a teacher offering support virtually that is designed to develop a deep understanding of math concepts. 

o 7th-grade content focus areas: measurement, rational numbers, algebraic concepts, probability and statistics 

o The future goal of enrollment in 8th grade Algebra 1 after 7th grade Accelerated Math

o 7th-grade Accelerated Readiness Exam administered at the end of the bridge program for parent registration consideration


Summer Bridge Mathematics Courses will be offered June 1 - 24, Monday - Thursday

Students will have approximately 2 hours of work per day.

The Math for 7th Grade (6th to 7th transition) teacher will be available for office hours Monday through Thursday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. & 3:00-3:45 p.m., and by appointment at other times during the week.  

All work will be available through Google Classroom.  Teachers are recording instruction so that students may work at their own pace.  Students may work ahead, and the target date for all students to complete the course is by June 24 with an end of bridge exam.  Students who require an extension beyond June 24 will complete the course as soon as possible with the GCISD Director of Mathematics.
