Student Success Initiative (SSI)

Grades 5 & 8

Purpose: The purpose of the STAAR Academy is to provide an intensive, targeted intervention for fifth and eighth-grade students needing to take the third administration of the STAAR Math and/or STAAR Reading test.

This four-hour model focuses on best practices in math and reading intervention. Whole group and small group instruction, along with individual intervention, will take place daily. Ongoing assessment will provide continuous monitoring of student progress.

Dates/Times of Sessions: Due to recent school closures summer school dates will be determined at a later date.

Hours: 7:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Grapevine High School

Tuition: None

Course Offerings: Grade 5 & 8 reading and/or math intervention for students needing to take the third administration of the STAAR test.

STAAR Test Dates:
Math – June 23
Reading – June 24

Registration: Students will be registered for STAAR Academy during a student’s Grade Placement Committee Meeting (GPC). This meeting will be scheduled by the home campus principal in late May or early June.

STAAR Academy Guidelines:

  1. Students are required by TEA to receive an intensive, targeted reading and/or math intervention program prior to taking the third administration of the Grade 5 and 8 STAAR tests.
  2. Students eligible for STAAR Academy are provided intervention prior to taking the third administration of the STAAR Reading and/or STAAR Math test.
  3. Students will be properly dressed and groomed according to the GCISD standards of the regular school term.
  4. GCISD Student Code of Conduct rules apply.
